Bernard Kinney, 79, of Avon, passed away at 10:12 a.m., Thursday, February 1, 2024, at his home. He was born May 5, 1944, in Lincoln Nebraska. He was raised and educated in Peoria where he played football.
He married Delores Burnett in 1972 and she survives.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 50 years Delores; children, Candy (Jamie) Heady of Pekin, IL, two stepsons, William and George Wicks of Avon; grandchildren, Aaron (Chelsy) Kramer of Champaign, IL, Marissa Heady of Pekin, Presley Stoneking of Peoria, IL and Little George, Crystal, Josh and Jason; great-granddaughter, Addy; siblings, Tina (Chuck) Nichols of Peoria, IL , Terry Nichols of Elmwood, IL.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Nichols; brother, Fred Nichols and one grandchild, Brandon Kinney.
He started his career as a roofer before moving on to Caterpillar. He worked for Caterpillar in maintenance for 30 years, retiring when he was 50. They then moved to Tennessee and lived there for 20+ years. He loved hunting, fishing and enjoyed drinking bourbon. He loved the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at 1415 N. 5th Street Pekin, IL. Moore Memorial Home, Avon, is handling the arrangements.
