Clarence Arthur "Art" Balding, 94, of Geneva, IL formerly of Monmouth died at 4:28 P.M. Monday, May 22, 2012 at the Geneva Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Geneva, IL.
Art was born Oct. 22, 1917 in Warren County, Ill. the son of Russell and Marie (Bitle) Balding. He was raised and educated in Monmouth.
Art married Helen Hunt in Peoria, IL on Feb. 18, 1939.
Art worked at Caterpillar in Peoria for 9 years. He then started a partnership with his father, R.G. Balding. Their business involved tiling, bulldozing, and earthmoving. He eventually became the sole owner; Art enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, playing guitar and playing bridge.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Monmouth.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Wheaton; sons, Terry (Nancy) Balding of Eau Claire, WI, Marshall (Jan) Balding of St. Charles, IL; one daughter, Carolyn (Steve) Johnson of Simpsonville, KY; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 3 nephews and 1 niece.
His parents, and a sister, Doris Balding Plunkett, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 25, 2012 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Rev. James Epperson of the First Christian Church of Monmouth officiating. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery, Monmouth. Friends may call Friday at Hoover-Hall memorial Chapel, Monmouth where his family will be present one hour prior to the services.
