Clyde Edward Campbell, 85, Little York, died Friday morning, July 27, 2012 at Courtyard Estates in Monmouth.
He was born on October 23, 1926 in Monmouth to Arthur and Mabel (Perrine) Campbell. He attended grade school at Denny Country School and graduated from Little York High School in 1944. After graduation, Clyde worked for Cecil Waugh, who helped transition him into farming.
Clyde married Helen Kinney on February 6, 1947 in Monmouth, Illinois. They started farming in 1948 and farmed in Henderson and Warren counties for the next 65 years. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2012.
Farming was his life and he stayed active in it until health issues forced him off the tractor and combine. Clyde's farming practices earned a soil conservation award as early as 1971. Later the Campbell Family was named Illinois Conservation Family of the Year. Clyde's passion was his cattle and his red trucks.
Clyde was proud of his family and he taught all of them the value of hard work. Even his grandchildren knew that Grandpa had work to do. Later in life he enjoyed their visits tremendously and hearing about their latest activities. He passed his love of Shorthorn cattle to the next two generations and enjoyed watching all of them show cattle through the years.
Giving back to the community was part of Clyde's life. He served on the Yorkwood School Board for nine years, was a Bald Bluff township trustee and a member of the Little Cedar Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder. He belonged to Little York Lions Club, Tri-County Cattlemen's Association and the American Shorthorn and Simmental Associations.
