David L. Simpson, 69, of Alexis, IL, died 3:36 PM Wednesday, August 08, 2012, at his home.
He was born March 10, 1943 in Monmouth, the son of Louis and Anita (Gilmore) Simpson. He was raised and educated in Alexis where he graduated from Alexis High School in 1961 and then graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1965 with a Forestry degree.
He served in the Montana Army National Guard from 1965 until 1971.
David married Genevieve Taylor on November 12, 1965 at Butte, Montana and she survives.
He was a Forester for 30 years in Montana, Colorado and Idaho. After retirement he worked as a meat cutter at Jack & Jill in Alexis. He enjoyed crafts and he made pine needle baskets, selling them at craft shows. He played the guitar and sang and enjoyed entertaining people.
His family includes his wife, Genevieve, son, John David (Ali) Simpson of Seattle, WA, daughter Amy (Arty) Tavano of South Portland, Maine, two sisters, Judy (Jim) Calhoun of Macomb and Cindy (Mark) Nieman of Phoenix, AZ, brother, Myron (Daleanne) Simpson of Bradenton, FL, two brother-in-laws, Tom (Judy) Taylor of Oklahoma City, OK and Peter (Cathy) Taylor of Nutrioso, AZ, along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Cremation has been accorded. No visitation is planned. Graveside services and interment of ashes will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 in Alexis Cemetery with Bill Ramsey officiating. Memorials may be left for Harbor Light Hospice or the Alexis-North Henderson Ambulance Service. The family would like to thank Harbor Light Hospice for the excellent care they gave Dave.
