Don Robert Kirby

Don Robert Kirby, 83, of Roseville, IL passed peacefully at his home Tuesday, March 7, 2017.

He was born on September 23, 1933 in Swan Creek, IL, the son of Ora Albert and Goldie Abigail (Wells) Kirby. Don married Donna Belle Robinson on January 30, 1960 in Roseville.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, children, Jill Kirby, Toni Kirby, David (Janelle) Kirby and grandsons Grant, Drew and Ty Kirby. His brother Glenn (Valerie) Kirby, and sisters Bobbe (Vincent) Hulslander and Melba Twomey also survive; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Mary Eleanor (Ora) Farr, Frances Brewer (Bob) Walker, Ruth (Alvin) Shaw, Donna Lee (Arnold) McCollom, and two sisters in infancy, Eva Marie and Bessie Jane Kirby.

He attended various grade schools and lived with his sister Mary Eleanor and husband Ora Farr and family during high school, graduating from Roseville High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He worked for Sands Elevator in Swan Creek, Gambles-Skogmo Warehouse in Monmouth and Pioneer Hi-Bred, from which he retired in 1998. Don also was an agent with Shelter Insurance for many years.

He was a faithful member of Swan Creek United Methodist Church for seventy years and Roseville Masonic Lodge for fifty-seven years. Don also belonged to the Lawson Babbitt Post # 614 American Legion, where he served on the honor guard.

Don was a terrific husband, father, grandfather, brother, role model and friend. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, the St. Louis Cardinals, and time with family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roseville United Methodist Church. Visitation will also be at the church on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 5:30 until 7:30 p.m., with Masonic Services prior to visitation at 5:00 p.m. Burials will be in the Roseville Township Cemetery Roseville, IL.
