Donald J. Shaw, 86, of Monmouth, died 3:05 A.M. Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Roseville Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Roseville.
He was born September 14, 1925 in Warren County, IL, the son of Ralph and Ora (Welty) Shaw. He was raised and educated in the Biggsvile area.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre.
Don married Erma L. Bennett in Monmouth on August 13, 1949 and she preceded him in death on February 7, 1988.
He worked at Admirals and owned and operated the Monmouth Bag Company through the Remke Bag Co. and had worked at Munson Transportation. He loved watching western movies.
He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 2301.
His family includes one daughter, Pat (Dan) Tansey of Monmouth, three sons Tom (Brenda) Shaw of Monmouth, David (Theresa) Shaw of Jeffersonville, IN and Michael (DeAnna) Shaw of Tuscaloosa, AL, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, one sister, Doris Carlson of Monmouth and special friends, Louise Kick and her dog, Jesse along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, granddaughter, grandson and brother, Paul.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Rev Jim Epperson of the First Christian Church, Monmouth. Friends may call on Thursday morning at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where his family will present to receive friends one hour prior to the service.
