Dorothy “Kay” Brent Engle passed peacefully January 1, 2021 knowing that her family and friends loved her dearly. Born to Mitchell Morris Brent and Dorothy Hazel Krout Brent on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1940 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg Illinois. Because she was the only baby born on Mother’s Day, they were not charged a hospital bill. Kay was a direct descendant of Kenner Brent Sr. who settled Ellison Township in Warren County in 1836. She was 5th generation born in Illinois and she is the last of her line to be born with the Brent name.
On March 8, 1959, Kay married Kenneth Earl Engle in Roseville Illinois and they moved to Henry Illinois in 1963. They had a son, Todd Brent Engle and daughter, Lisa Gaye Engle
Kay was involved in several groups and activities in Henry including singing in the choir at the United Methodist Church and she very much enjoyed teaching the high school Sunday school class for several years and the students loved her.
Kay always wanted to learn new things; she was very athletic (especially softball and baseball), adventurous, loved chocolate, liked to try new recipes (she was an excellent cook), loved flowers since she was a tiny little girl, loved going to the symphony and musicals, keep up with friends and assisting elderly people.
She was the first Social Services Director at Heartland in Henry and went on to the same position at Greenfield in Princeton, taking great satisfaction in both jobs.
Kay absolutely loved to travel and went on many family vacations and traveled all over the world with husband, Kenny and her daughter, Lisa.
Preceding her in death were her beloved parents, grandparents and brother, Corporal David Allison Brent, killed in Vietnam. Also departed are many dear friends and pets.
Kay leaves behind her husband of almost 62 years, Kenneth, children Lisa and Todd (Mary) and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the staff at Lacon Rehab and Nursing Home and Vitas Hospice Care. A very special thank you to Jen, Angie, Judy, April and Sister Michael for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the World Wildlife Fund and the SPCA.
Services will be in the spring. Please sign the online guestbook at www.wisefamilyfuneralhome.com. Wise Family funeral Home Roseville is in charge of the arrangements.
