Dorothy I. McDowell, 99, of North Henderson, Illinois died 12:41 P.M. Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois She was born April 18, 1915 in Ringgold County, Iowa the daughter of Peter G. and Anna (Shaffer) Holmes. She was reared and educated in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Dorothy married Wayne McDowell in Mount Ayr, Iowa on May 10, 1934 and he died June 3, 1980. She moved to North Henderson in 1940. Dorothy was a nurse's aid at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg for 2 years and was an beautician for 50 years. She later worked at Admiral in Galesburg, retiring after 15 years. She was a member of the North Henderson Methodist Church, North Henderson Floral Club and the Ever Busy Club of North Henderson. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Shirley Fox Watson of North Henderson; 2 sons Gary McDowell of North Henderson and Terry (Elaine) McDowell of East Galesburg; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 11great great grandchildren along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 granddaughter, Linda Fox, 3 sisters and 3 brothers, two sons-in-law, and one daughter-in-law. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the North Henderson United Methodist Church with Dr. Roberta Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, North Henderson. Her family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be given to the North Henderson United Methodist Church or the Knox County Nursing Home. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at hooverhall.com. Visitation: Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, until the time of services, at the North Henderson United Methodist Church. Service: Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M.
