Elizabeth M. Waugh, 96, of Little York, died at 5:24 A.M. Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Monmouth Nursing Home. She was born August 23, 1917 in Henderson County, IL, the daughter of Leo and Pearl (Hottle) Smith. She was raised and educated at Bald Bluff and graduated from Seaton High School in 1935. She received her teaching degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb. Elizabeth married Ivan R. Waugh in Henderson County on June 1, 1941 and he preceded her in death on July 22, 1996. Elizabeth taught elementary school at the Little York School starting in 1937 and continuing on through the transition to Yorkwood Community School until retiring in 1973. She continued to substitute teach after retirement for a number of years. She and her husband enjoying traveling and dancing, and she enjoyed gardening. She was a member of the Little Cedar Presbyterian Church in Little York. She was also a member of the Warren County Retired Teachers and Alpha Rho Chapter #41 of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Her family includes one sister-in-law, Ruby Smith of Monmouth, three nieces, Janna Grimesey of Phoenix, AZ, Bonnie (Skip) Skripps of Macomb, IL and Karen (Tammy) Lufkin of Galesburg, IL, two great nephews, David and J uan Grimesey, one great niece, Kirsten Bruns, and two great great nephews, Jude and Maddax. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, William Smith, one sister, Mary Grimesey and two nephews, Larry Smith and Leo Grimesey. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 29,2104 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Pastor Pam Moore. Burial will be in Belmont Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday morning at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where her family will be present for visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be left for the United School Elementary Library or the Donor's choice. Online condolences may be left at hooverhall.com.
