Emma H. Toops, 91, of Little York, died 11:55 A.M. Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg. She was born August 20, 1923 at Abingdon, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Baldwin) Lewis. She was raised and educated in Abingdon.. Emmie married Charles William Toops on March 27, 1940 at Fort Madison, Iowa and he preceded her in death on March 26, 1990. In her early years she worked on the family farm. She was the head cook at Yorkwood School District for a number of years. She then worked at Western Stoneware Pottery and then was head of housekeeping at Applegate Manor in Monmouth until retiring. She enjoyed her family sewing and cooking. She was a member of the former Little York United Methodist Church. Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Dixie (Gary) Avery of Monmouth and Cindy Peddicord of Little York, five grandchildren, Bill Toops of Kirkwood, Trent (Jamie) Avery of Cameron, Donna (Jake) Hunter of Arkansas, Taelor (Jim) Elliott of Merryville, TN and Stevie Peddicord of Little York, 6 great grandchildren and 1great great grandson, one brother, William Lewis of Cheyenne, WY along with nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, one son, HerbToops, 5 sisters and 3 brothers preceded her in death. Graveside services and burial will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 25, 2014 in Little York Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where visitation with her family will be from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Memorials may be left for Alternatives For Older Adults.
