Floyd L. "Buzz" Willett, 91, of Monmouth, died January 7, 2013 at the Galesburg Terrace Nursing Home, Galesburg, where he resided for the last 21 years.
He was born October 25, 1921 in Alexis, the son of Floyd and Ellen (Johnson) Willett. He was raised and educated in Alexis.
Floyd married Ruby Anderson on May 9, 1942. He married Audrey Meyers and she preceded him in death on October 12, 1992.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving from August 13, 1942 to October 12, 1945 in a Prisoner of War Processing Company in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received 3 bronze Stars, 3 overseas Service Bars, Service Stripe and EAME Campaign Medal.
He farmed after the war, and later delivered home fuel oil for Standard Oil and then was a delivery driver at Monmouth Fruit Company.
He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 2301 of Monmouth.
His family includes one son, Larry (Betty) Willett of Galesburg, two daughters, Anna (Larry) Doubet of North Henderson and Anita (Paul) Creek of Alexis, 18 grandchildren and a number of great and great great grandchildren, one brother, Keith (Mary) Willett of Oneida and one sister-in-law, Betty Willett of Alpha along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, one son Gary Willett, one grandson, Zachary Creek and one brother, Lyle Willett.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Rev Michael Clark of the Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville. Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where his family will be present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
