Genevieve Susan Taylor Simpson “Gennie Sue”, of Alexis Illinois passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 27th, 2024 with her family and Lola her beloved dog by her side.
Gennie was born March 5th, 1943 in Denver, Colorado to Fitz Gerald and Genevieve Emma (Dunn) Taylor. Gennie lived all over the world as an Air Force Brat. Her fondest memories were in Eastover, South Carolina on “The Hill” and in Myrtle Beach at “The Thing”. Gennie Sue loved putting her feet in the sand and was always dreaming of one last trip to the beach.
Gennie attended Southern Illinois University where she met her future husband, Dave. They were married in Butte, Montana on November 12th, 1965. They lived an adventurous and love-filled life in Idaho and Montana, bushwhacking through the woods, raising pigs and making moonshine, chasing kids and dreams, cobbling together an adventure big on laughter and love, and small on convention. In 1993 they returned to Dave’s hometown to be closer to family.
Gennie Sue spent the greater part of her life with her head in a book and her hand petting a dog. She left no book unread. She adored plants, cooking, gardening, the Chicago Cubs, her far-flung family, and simply being alone.
Gennie is survived by her children; John David of Seattle, andAmy (Arthur) Tavano of Maine; bonus child Ohea (Steve) Graham of Colorado, bonus grandchildren Lillian and Elliot; two brothers, Pete (Cathy) Taylor of New Mexico, Tom (Judy) Taylor of Oklahoma; Sister in Law Judy (Simpson) Calhoun of Macomb, brother in Law Myron Simpson of Galesburg; nieces and nephews both present and absent, and cousins far and wide.
