Harriett F. Reynolds 91, of Alexis, died 4:22 P.M., December 17, 2013, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa. She was born September 29, 1922 at Monmouth Hospital, the daughter of Clifford and Edna (Josephson) Simpson. She was raised and educated in the Alexis area where she graduated from Alexis High School in 1940 and she graduated from Brown Business College in Burlington, Iowa. She then moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked for the U. S. Navy Department during World War II, eventually moving to Mayo Army General Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois, where she met her husband, Marshall Reynolds and they were married on May 15, 1945 at the Norwood United Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2008. She was a lifetime member of the Norwood Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and held various offices in it's Mary Circle. Harriett was active in CC Club and was dedicated to civic service, serving as President of the Alexis American Legion Auxiliary, member of the Mercer County V.F.W., an officer of the Mildred Warner Washington Hearts of Oaks Chapter of the DAR, Aledo Mercer County Genealogy Society and Museum Board where she helped organize the 5th grade historical education tours. Harriett enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and games with her family and sharing her love of genealogy by helping family, friends and strangers find their family origins. Those left to cherish her memory are six daughters, Janice Sharer of Alexis, Beverlee Atherton of Savanna, Illinois, Marlene (Dan) McNaught of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Marsha Hardacre of Rock Island, IL, Rita (Brad) Rasmussen of Eldridge, IA and Rosalee (Maxon) Widner of Grand Prairie, TX along with 53 grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 21, 2013at the Norwood Presbyterian Church with Pastors David Dutton and Maura Nagle. Cremation will be accorded following the services and interment of ashes will be in Norwood Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. on Friday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis where her family will present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Norwood Presbyterian Church or Clarissa C. cook Hospice. Online condolences may be left at hooverhall.com. Visitation: Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. on Friday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis where her family will be present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 21, 2013at Norwood Presbyterian Church.
