Janice Mae Wallace, 89 of Galesburg, IL passed away Sunday July 3, 2016, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, IL. She was born January 28, 1927 in Warren County, Floyd Township, IL the daughter of Joseph Erwin and Georgia M. (Blevins) Whitenack. She married Robert Downard and later married Jack Wallace both preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her memory are one son David (Leslie) Downard of TN.; one daughter-in-law Jan Downard of WI; two sisters Kathryn Travers of IN, Mary Linker of IL; 2 grandsons Greg Downard of TN, and Josh Downard of WI, and 2 granddaughters Julie Krieger of TN Jay Lynn of WI; great grandsons Jordan, Jaden of TN ; great granddaughter Alexis of TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, 1 sister (Shirley Fordyce), 2 sons (Dean Erwin Downard and Steven Merle Downard).

She graduated Avon High School in 1944. She Attended Western Illinois University. She was a teacher and taught a county school in Roseville, IL and later taught at the YMCA in Galesburg, IL. After 20 years of teaching she worked in the Galesburg Clinic until she retired.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Wednesday July 6, 2016, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Wise Family - Hoover Hall Funeral Home Monmouth, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Knox County Nursing Home or the Donors choice of charity.
