Jean B. Bishop, 84, of Monmouth died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth.
She was born October 7, 1928 in Pucker Brush, Iowa the daughter of William and Grace (Landers) Housman. She was reared and educated in Chariton, Iowa.
Jean married Richard P. Bishop in Alexis, Illinois on August 7, 1946 and he survives.
Jean was a wife and mother of 4 daughters, 12 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. She enjoyed doing church work, quilting, flower gardening, crafts, cooking, baking and family weddings.
She was an active member of Heritage United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth and their Dorcas sewing circle. She served as an elder, deacon, and headed many other committees.
She worked as a homemaker and seamstress while raising her children. In 1970 she was employed at Central Junior High cafeteria, she later managed Warren School's cafeteria and ICS cafeteria for 16 years.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Bishop of Monmouth; 4 daughters, Regina (Kregg) Swanson of Noblesville, IN, Shelia (Mike) Nelson of Viola, IL, Marcia (Mark) Noles of Little York, IL, and Leiane (Richard) Bertelsen of Aledo, IL; her beloved friend, Betty Anderson of Monmouth, IL; 12 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and one sister, Lettie Norton of Phoenix, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Heritage United Presbyterian Church, Monmouth with the Rev. John Irwin officiating. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park. Friends may call Saturday morning at Heritage United Presbyterian Church, where her family will be present one hour prior to the service to receive friends.
