Jeffrey "Fluff" Tyrrell, 68, of Alexis IL, died at 12:24 A.M. Tuesday November 6, 2012 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
Jeff was born October 20, 1944, in Galesburg IL. the son of Lyle and Leatha J. (Devlin) Tyrrell.
He married Karol J. Houser on August 10, 1968 in Alexis.
Jeff graduated from Alexis High School in 1963. He went to earn his degrees from Joliet Jr. College and Western Illinois University.
Fluff was a loving husband, father, grandfather, coach, and IHSA official for many years throughout Illinois and the Warren/Mercer County area.
He taught for 46 years at the following schools AlWood, Yorkwood, Monmouth, Rochester, and Abingdon High Schools, and most recently Knoxville Jr. High School. He also coached at AlWood, Alexis, Monmouth, Yorkwood, Rochester, and United High Schools as well as Monmouth College. He officiated area football, basketball, and ASA softball for many years.
He was on the Cardinal Community Manor Board and Mount Vernon Cemetery Board. Fluff also enjoyed fishing when not on the field, attending countless games around the area as well as Chicago Cubs Baseball games with his family and friends.
His family includes his wife Karol, 2 daughters Kristina (Linn) French and Amanda Painter, one son, Kevin (Jayne) Tyrrell, a sister Judy (John) Elder, all of Alexis, and two sister-in-laws, Irene Tyrrell of Shorewood, IL, and Lois Tyrrell of Galesburg, IL, 9 grandchildren, 1 great- granddaughter, 18 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Stanley and James, and one nephew, Mark Tyrrell.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 9, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at North Henderson United Methodist Church, North Henderson, with the Revs. Suzanne Geer and David Dutton. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, North Henderson. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Thursday, November 8, 2012 with family present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Alexis Fieldhouse, Alexis, IL.
