Joyce Ann (Calloway) Cannon, 85, of Canton, IL, formerly of Avon, IL, passed away at 6:51 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2022, at the Loft Rehabilitation & Nursing of Canton. She was born May 26, 1937, in Macy, IN, the daughter of Glen R. and Namona (Burns) Calloway. She married Charles E. Cannon on August 21, 1965 in Perrysburg, IN, and he preceded her in death August 27, 2013.

Surviving Joyce are twin sons, Dr. John G. Cannon of Boise, ID, and Dr. Jerry (Macey) Cannon of Austin, MN; daughter, Karen Johnson of Mahomet, IL; son-in-law, Jon Johnson of Canton; grandchildren, Eric Blondell Johnson, Rebecca Ann Johnson, Cole Earl Cannon, Carson Michael Cannon and Chloe Ann Cannon; sisters, Lela (Richard) Barnhisel of Lexington, KY and Carol Calloway; brother, Jerry (Phyllis) Calloway of Macy, IN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Patsy Fincher-Mills and brother-in-law Joe Fincher.

Joyce graduated from Deedsville High School, IN, and Ball State University with an M.A. in Education. She taught home economics classes in Bunker Hill, IN, Hammond, IN, Abingdon High School and Avon High School. She was the editor of the Avon Sentinel for 20 years and the Abingdon Argus for 15 years before retiring in 1999. She was co-owner, with her husband, of Cannon Trophies, from 1987-2013.

A 10-year member of 4-H, she also was a 4-H leader in Indiana and Illinois for 14 years. She went to India for 6 months under the International Farm Youth Exchange. She was a lifetime member of the National IFYE Association, Illinois IFYE Association, and Indiana IFYE Association. She was also a lifetime member of the Mother’s Association at the University of Illinois having been honored as Outstanding County Chairman and served on the Board of Directors as Secretary and Second Vice President. She was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church and later the Canton First Baptist Church, serving for many years as President and Treasurer of the Women’s Fellowship. She had also served as an Area III ABW Ministries officer. She was also a former president of the Warren County Home Extension and the Warren/Henderson Diabetes Club and served on the Warren County unit of the American Cancer Society.
