Linda L. Crandall, 63, of Monmouth, IL passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018, 7:00 a.m. at the Rosewood Care Center Galesburg, IL. She was born on March 28, 1955 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Donald and Dorothy (Watts) Walters. Linda married Gary Crandall on July 9, 2005.
Linda was raised on the family farm east of Cameron, Illinois. She graduated from Warren High school in 1973, attended Western Illinois University, and graduated from Monmouth College. After college, Linda worked in Monmouth at WMOI Radio Station as a sales office manager, then in Monmouth College’s Alumni office. In 1987, Linda relocated to the Chicago area to work at and attend Trinity Evangelical Divinity School where she obtained a master’s degree of Religion. She also worked for Harvest Bible Chapel, Rolling Meadows, Illinois. Upon graduation, she received an Honorary to pursue Chaplaincy work and moved to Bloomington, Illinois where she completed Chaplaincy training through Bromenn Hospital’s Clinical Pastoral Education program. Linda and Gary’s relationship began when they bumped into each other at the airport in Peoria as Linda was headed for an interview as a hospital Chaplaincy position in Columbus, Ohio. She then relocated to Monmouth and worked for Lutheran Social Services in Galesburg as a coordinator of the Single Parent program.
Linda authored the Kendra the Kat series of inspirational children books. Other activities included work with First Christian Church’s “Rock House” for teenagers, a volunteer at Willow Creek Community Church (South Barrington, Illinois) in their Hospitality room, and as a leader for various church Small Groups. Linda attended First Christian Church of Monmouth.
Linda is survived by her husband Gary Crandall, son Dustin (Kelly) Crandall of Scottsdale, Arizona, daughter Magen (Steve) Taplin of Scottsdale, Arizona, grandchildren Karli and Cloe Crandall, and Laurie and Dylan Taplin, mother Dorothy Walters of Monmouth, sister Carolyn (Doug) Abel of Santa Ana, California, and brothers William (Tammy) Walters of Cameron, and Daniel Walters of Chicago. Linda was preceded in death by her father Donald Walters of Monmouth/Cameron.
Linda had a strong faith and enjoyed life, especially being with family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at 2:30 on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the First Christian Church in Monmouth. A private Family burial service will precede the Celebration of Life Ceremony.
