Mary Alice Lee, 98. formerly of Kirkwood and Oquawka, died 1:55 A.M. Monday, August 13. 2012 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth.
She was born November 22, 1913 in Monmouth, the daughter of James Lewis and Margaret (Weir) Lauver. She was raised and educated in Warren and Henderson Counties and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1931.
Mary Alice married Maurice "Granny" Lee in Monmouth on November 16, 1935 and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1988.
She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the farming operation. They retired and moved to Oquawka in 1982 and remained there until she moved to Courtyard Estates, Monmouth in 2009. In her early years she was involved with the Smithshire Home Extension. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed being near the river.
She was a member of the Kirkwood United Methodist Church where she was involved in the Women's Society of Christian Service and also with the Oquawka United Methodist Church which she attended while living there.
Her family includes two sons, Maurice "Bill" Lee of Las Vegas, NV and Dick (Ami) Lee of Davenport, four grandchildren Tim (Queenie) Lee of Las Vegas, Katie Lee of Rialto, CA, Brianna (Kevin) Pollock of Moline and Michaela Lee of Bettendorf, IA and 4 great grandchildren along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one granddaughter.
Cremation has been accorded. Private burial will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. There is no visitation planned. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Memorial may be left for the Kirkwood United Methodist Church or the Oquawka United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be left at www.hooverhall.com
