Mary E. O'Brien, 74, of Peoria formerly of the Alexis area died at 3:36 A.M. Wed. March 21, 2012 at the Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born July 16, 1937 in Mercer County, IL the daughter of Alvin Edward "Ed" and Ava Lillian (Higginson) Axcell. She was raised and educated in Mercer Co. and Alexis, graduating from Alexis High School in 1955.
Mary married Robert Dean O'Brien in Alexis in June 1956 and he died in August 1970.
Mary was a sales representative for R.J. Reynolds, retiring in 1995. She loved her family, friends, her two cats, Cassie and Katie, backyard birds, flowers, the beauty of nature, and she was known for her sense of humor.
She was a member of the Wildlife Prairie Park, Peoria.
Survivors include her daughter, Robin O'Brien of Peoria; sisters, Marilyn (Charles) Johnson of Alexis, Martha Flesher of Arvada, CO; brothers, John (Sandy) Axcell of Monmouth and Donald (Patty) Axcell of Galesburg; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 26, 2012 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis. Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery. Friends may call Monday morning at the Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis where her family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the services.
