Mavis Jean (Oldham) Harmon, 96, of Avon, Illinois, passed away at 3:53 a.m., Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at Seminary Manor of Galesburg. She was born October 6, 1928 in Colchester, Illinois, the daughter of George and Leta (Sebree) Oldham.
She married Ralph Harmon on July 19, 1950 and he preceded her in death on March 18, 2017.
During her lifetime she was a homemaker and managed the family business, Harmon and Harmon Insurance and Real Estate Agency.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons; Carl Harmon of Safford, Arizona and Paul (Leah) Harmon of Dexter, Michigan. 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; niece, Jennifer McPhail and daughter-in-law Kathryn Harmon also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; son, Sidney Harmon of the insurance agency; 3 brothers, Wayne, Eldon, and Gary Oldham and 3 sisters, Florence McPhail, Ramona, and Dorothy.
Mavis loved to cook and pies were her specialty. She enjoyed baking them for family gatherings and for her friends. She enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and playing golf at Little Swan Lake, where she resided for most of her life. She was very creative and had a flair for interior decorating. She took great pride in her home. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Cremation rites have been accorded with a private family service to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Fulton County, PO Box 701, Canton, IL 61520.
