Norma J. Shores

Norma J. Shores, 77, of Avon, passed away at 11:57 p.m., Saturday July 6, 2024, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Illinois. Norma was born February 26, 1947, in Camden, Illinois, the daughter of Lewis “Tuck” and Annalee (Greenplate) Shores. She was raised and educated in Avon graduating from Avon High School in 1966.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Keith Shores of Neponset, Illinois; nieces, Tammy (Scott) Baughman of Smithfield, Illinois, Laura Gillett of Abingdon, Illinois, Kristina (Brett) Bennett of Kewanee, Illinois, Dawn Gillett of Booneville, Indiana, Selina (Chad) Hartweg of Kewanee, Shanna (Tony) Plympton of Galesburg, Illinois; nephew, Brian Shores of Kewanee. Several great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry McNeely; sister, Nancy Gillett; sister-in-law, Tenia Shores and brother-in-law, Larry Gillett.

Norma was a well-loved registered nurse at OSF St. Mary Medical Center for 37 years. She was a huge classic country music fan and loved Elvis Presley, Ronnie McDowell and Marty Robbins. She collected native American décor. She was a member of the Avon Federated Church and she enjoyed attending the church coffee hour. She also loved to attend the monthly OSF retiree's luncheon. Family was very important to her and she organized family reunions to keep everyone together.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the funeral home. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery, Vermont, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the Avon Federated Church or the Safe Harbor Family Crisis Center and left in the care of the funeral home. Moore Memorial Home, Avon, is handling the arrangements.
