Phillip E. Creek of Courtland, MS passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi, Oxford, MS from complications of an appendectomy.
Phil was raised and educated in Alexis, IL graduating from Alexis High School in 1971. He loved sports in school and as a Senior was a part of the football team that won the conference title. He also had a love for pole vaulting and set a record that still stands today. He was also an avid water skier and in his younger years. He also became a ham radio operator and spent alot of time talking to people all over the world. He also had cards from people all over the world.
He married Sherry Keaver in 1971 and later moved to Montana. He later met Shirley O'Conner in Sidney, MT., she became his partner for life; marrying August 31, 2018 after being together for 31 years (He said what was the rush!)
IN his younger years he worked as a meat cutter, first for his bother-in-law Owen and went on to work at several jobs as a meat cutter. He later decided to go on to college, so took jobs working long hours on oil rigs in MT. to finance schooling. He later graduated from Bismark State College in North Dakota in 1991 with a degree in power plant technology. He then worked in the power plant field in Richmond, VA for Cogentrix. He transferred to a power plant on Batesville, MS in 1999 and retired from there.
Phillip is survived by his wife Shirley; one stepdaughter Sheila (Roger) Carson of San Antonio, TX; one step granddaughter Carolyn and one step grandson Austin; siblings Shirley (Jerry) Stead of Viola, IL, Ethel (Owen) Conard of Elephant Butte, NM, Dave (Laura) Creek of Manchester, TN, John (Becky) Creek of Lebanon, TN., Paul (Anita) Creek of Alexis, IL, Mary (Rick) Shaw of Alexis, IL, Larry Nichols of Marion, IN, Gean Creek of Alexis, IL and Angie Creek of Galesburg, IL along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers (Stanley Creek, Wally Creek, Samuel Creek Jr.) and sister (Doris Nichols).
Funeral service will be Monday, November 26, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at the Wise Family Funeral Home Alexis, IL. Burial will be in the Alexis Cemetery Alexis, IL. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, November 25, 2018 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Phil fully enjoyed being with his family and once told us he really didn't talk much. He never stopped talking when he was with them. His laugh, teasing and stories will be sorely missed.
