Ralph Eugene Harmon

Ralph Eugene Harmon, 90, formally of Avon, IL passed away Saturday March 18, 2017, 3:45 a.m. at OSF St. Mary's Medical Center Galesburg, IL. He was born on Tuesday March 1, 1927, son of Carl and Esther (Sapp) Harmon of Macomb, IL. He married Mavis (Oldham) of Colchester, IL on July 19, 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and later attended Western Illinois University and graduated from University of Illinois.

In his earlier years, he taught Agriculture and Science in Industry, in Bardolph and Avon. He went on to become an insurance agent, realtor and appraiser which lead to the establishment of Harmon & Harmon Insurance Agency with his son, Sidney Harmon.

He was very active within the Avon Community serving as past president of the Avon Fat Steer Show, Avon Business Men's Association and member of the Avon Masonic Lodge #253. He was very instrumental in the development of Little Swan Lake where he lived most of his life enjoying all the amenities there especially golf, boating and fishing.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mavis and sons, Carl of Safford, AZ and Paul of Diexter, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his son, Sidney Harmon (December 21, 2013) of the Harmon Insurance Agency of Abingdon, IL. He had 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He took great pride in his family and enjoyed all the time spent with his grandchildren who brought him years of happiness. Ralph never knew a stranger and always had lots of stories to tell.

Cremation rites will be accorded with a private family service to be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made to his wife, Mavis Harmon at Seminary Estates, Galesburg, IL.
