Ruby Margaret Smith

Ruby M. Smith, 89 of Monmouth, passed away Friday December 25, 2015, 10:15 pm at the Monmouth Nursing Home Monmouth, IL.

She was born May 10, 1926 in Knox County, the daughter of Glenn and Amy (Bloomfield) Richardson. She was raised and educated in the Rio community, where she graduated from Alpha High School and attended Brown's Business College in Galesburg.

Ruby married William "Bill" Edward Smith in Rio, IL on February 15, 1948, and he preceded her in death on May 8, 2000.

She was the secretary at Yorkwood Elementary School for 25 years. She loved her children, grandchildren and valued her friendships. She enjoyed gardening and loved animals.

Ruby was a former member of the Little Cedar Presbyterian Church in Little York, the Little York Farmerettes and the American Legion Post 136 Auxiliary. After she and Bill retired form farming and moved to Monmouth, she became a volunteer at Monmouth Hospital and a member of the Heritage United Presbyterian Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Bonnie (Dennis) Skripps of Macomb and Karen (Tammy) Lufkin of Galesburg; one granddaughter, Kirsten (John) Warren of Galesburg; three great grandchildren Jude, Maddax, and Vada Warren; five step grandchildren and seven great step grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews including Janice (David) Hawkinson of Galesburg, Richard (Dottie) Burns of Overland Park, Kansas, and Jana Grimesey of Pheonix, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Kenneth and Larry, one step grandson, Caleb Lufkin, two sisters, Betty Richardson and Ruth Marie Burns, and two nephews, Don (Nancy) Burns of Galesburg and Leo George Grimesey (Jose) of Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be Wednesday December 30, 2015 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Pastor Pam Moore officiating. Burial will be in Little York Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday December 30, 2015 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where her family will be present from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Memorials may be left for the Monmouth Nursing Home. Online condolences may be left at www.wisefamily-hooverhall.com.
