Thomas W. Wallace, age 79, of Monmouth, died suddenly on Thursday, June 7, 2012.
Tom was born on March 12, 1933 in Brookport, IL. the son of Richard "Doc" and Helen Wallace. He was raised in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School. Tom married Jeanne Gillette on March 14, 1952 in Monmouth at the 9th Ave. Presbyterian Church..
Surviving are his wife, Jeanne; one son, Tom (Sandy) Wallace of Galesburg; two daughters, Pam Clark of Peoria and Lori (Donnie) Herriford of Magnolia, TX; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Mildred Gillette; sisters-in-law, Pauline Baynes of Galesburg and Sharon Wallace of Mt. Morris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, C. Raymond Gillette; two brothers, Roy Baynes and Bob Wallace.
Tom Served with the United States Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War.
Tom and Jeanne attended 9th Avenue Presbyterian Church and are now members of Heritage United Presbyterian Church. He has served on the session and was clerk of the session, and served on many different church committees. He was also a member of the Heritage U.P. Church Promise Keepers and the Monmouth American Legion Post #136.
Tom was the first director of the Jamieson Center and always stayed involved in their activities. He was a carpenter by trade, worked for the Department of Corrections, and then became a juvenile probation officer in Fulton County. He then returned to his love of carpentry in later years.
He was a loving foster parent of 55 children through the years. He loved his family and enjoyed his carpentry work. He loved his church family and was the go-to man for all events at the church.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Heritage United Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Irwin officiating. Burial will take place at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Friends may call on Tuesday morning at the Church where his family will be present from 9:30 until the time of services. Memorials can be made to Heritage U.P. Church. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
The family would like to extend an open invitation for a celebration of Tom's life on Monday, June 11, 2012 from 6 to 9 p.m. at 911 South A Street, Monmouth, IL.
