Virginia Effland, 97, of Avon, IL passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019, 6:48 a.m. at the Knox County Nursing Home. She was born Sunday, November 13, 1921, in Lee Township the daughter of Ray Victor and Mary Esther (Homer) Sweney. She married Easton “Bill” Effland on August 3, 1940, in Canton, MO; he preceded her in death on December 18, 1999.
Virginia is survived by her children: Carolyn (Jim) Hays of Conway, Ark., Ruth Ann (Robert) Smith of Galva, IL, and a daughter-in-law Jeran Effland of Quincy, IL; 7 grandchildren: Richard hays, Bradley Hays, Lori Anne Effland, Kelly Doerhoff, Corey Smith, Shantel Garcia, Shaundra Smith; 8 great grandchildren; one sister Barbara Eckhoff of Chillicothe, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 son (Lloyd A. Effland), 1 sister (Marion Gray), and 1 brother (Jim Sweney).
Virginia worked several jobs through her life, she worked at the Overhaul Factory in Abington, IL, G&M Electronics in LaGrange, MO and from there retired to Bushnell, IL. She farmed near Bardolph, IL (Mound Township). She attended Day Health in Macomb and was a member of the Christian Church of Bushnell, IL. She enjoyed making quilts and playing cards at the Rec Center.
Funeral service will be Monday, January 21, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at Wise Family Funeral Home Avon, IL. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to the hour of service. Burial will be in the Avon Cemetery Avon, IL. Memorials may be made to the OSF Hospice, Christian Church of Bushnell, IL and/or Bushnell Rescue Squad.
