W. Claire Driscoll, 80, of Monmouth, died at 4:10 A.M. Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Heartland Healthcare Center, Galesburg.

He was born October 11, 1932 in North Henderson, IL, the son of Alfred and Helen (Marston) Driscoll. He attended Roseville schools and graduated from Monmouth in 1950.

He served as a Corporal in the United States Army in Korea from 1953 to 1954.

Claire married Martha Thompson on May 27, 1953 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth.

He first worked as a plant inspector for Dekalb Ag and in 1964 he started his farming career. He lived and farmed south of Aledo for 28 years and then moved to Monmouth.

He was a member of the St. Catherine's Church in Aledo where he served as a trustee. Once in Monmouth they attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Through the years, Claire has been active with the Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight. He was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He has served on the board of directors of the F &M Bank in Galesburg and the Trust and Savings Bank and Marquette Bank in Monmouth.

His family includes his wife Martha of 59 years; daughters: Peggy (Danny) Watson of Owosso, Michigan, Mary (Randy) Louck of Aledo, Susan (Kenny) Byers of Monmouth, Rosie (Harvey) Kesinger of Monmouth; grandchildren: Jared (Jennifer) McCreight, Andy (Amanda) McCreight, David (Marcy) Sturgill, Tyler (Amanda) Sturgill, Brian (Amanda) Byers, Kevin Byers, Blake Byers, Jason (Nicole) Brockett, Katie Kesinger; 14 great grandchildren; brother, David (Carol) Driscoll of Monmouth; Brother and Sister-In-Laws: Margaret Ray, Polly Thompson, Francis and Florence Kane, Helen Hanna, Grace Dollinger, Donna Driscoll, Bob Noonan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel; sister, Delores Noonan; Brother and Sister-In-Laws: Harold and Barb Thompson, Bill Thompson, Bob Thompson, Lawrence and Margaret Thompson, Paul Hanna, Earl Ray, Leroy Dollinger; and a great granddaughter, Novally Paige Sturgill.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Monsignor Tom Mack. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Monmouth. Friends may call Friday, December 21, 2012 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where a rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. followed with visitation with his family until 8:00 P.M.. Visitation: Friends may call Friday, December 21, 2012 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where a rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. followed with visitation with his family until 8:00 P.M. Mass: Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Monsignor Tom Mack.
