Walter E. Avery

Walter E. Avery, 93 of Smithshire, IL passed away Monday October 31, 2016, 7:20 a.m. at the Care Center of Abingdon Abingdon, IL. He was born Wednesday September 26, 1923 in Oquawka, IL the son of John Henry and Merle (Wolford) Avery. He married Juanitia Thomas on February 22, 1947, in Kirkwood, IL.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of Smithshire, IL; Children Linda Sue (Glen) McCollum of Mt. Pleasant, IA, David E. (Alisa) Avery of Smithshire, IL, John (Robbin) Avery of Monmouth, IL; 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; siblings Betty McMeen, Jesse Avery, Dorothy Lipes, Gerald Avery, Gary Avery, Tom Avery; serveral nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, 1 daughter (Carol Ann), 1 sister and 2 brothers.

He was self employed for 38 years at the Smithshire Garage. He was in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the Smithshire Fire Dept. He was on the Media Weaver School Board. He enjoyed boating, fishing and was an avid bowler.

Funeral service will be Thursday November 3, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at the Wise Family Hoover Hall Funeral Home Monmouth, IL. Burial will be in the Centergrove Cemetery in Kirkwood, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday November 2, 2016 in the hours between 10-6 p.m. at the Wise Family Hoover Hall Funeral Home Monmouth, IL. Memorials may be made to the Smithshire Fire Dept.
