Wylie Rolland Michael, 89, formerly of Little York, died 1:19 P.M. Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Blessing Hospital, Quincy, IL.
He was born April 13, 1924 in Harveyville, Kansas, the son of Everette P. and Jeanette I. (Sloan) Michael. He was raised and educated in Kansas, Missouri and Illinois and graduated from Alexis High School.
Rolland served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II from Dec 1943 until May 1945 as an Aerial Gunner, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, receiving three Bronze Stars and the Philippine Liberation, receiving one Bronze Star.
Rolland married G. Arleen Giffin at the Sunbeam Church on August 5, 1948 and she preceded him in death on December 30, 1985.
He first farmed near Sunbeam and later near Little York. He worked at Butler Manufacturing, retiring from there in 1986. He continued farming and enjoyed working on old farm equipment.
He was a member of the Sugar Tree Grove Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an Elder.
His family includes three sons, Rodney (Debra) Michael of Glidden, Iowa, Larry (Jane) Michael of Kirkwood and Chuck (Linda) Michael of Monmouth, grandchildren, Stacie (Eric) Daily, Cortney (Maribel) Michael, Amanda Michael, Clint (Emilie) Michael, Makaela King, Lucas Michael and Kristen Brownlee, Carey Aten, Corey (Molly) Aten, great grandchildren, Katelyn Daily, Kimberly Daily, Arleen Michael, Robert Michael, Mike (Nikki) Chang, Kyle Brittingham, Gabrielle King, Elijah King, Wyatt Michael, Lily Aten and Cody Aten and one sister Fairybelle Benham of Galesburg along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 5 sisters and 1 brother.
Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel. Burial with military honors will be in Candor Cemetery, Mercer County. Friends may call on Saturday morning at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where his family will be present to receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service.
